Hi Writing Family!
Do you ever start your day with ice-cream for breakfast?
Growing up, my mum served up ice-cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Anywhere, anytime is good for ice-cream, according to her.
Anywhere, anytime is a good for writing too.
You don’t need a morning routine. You don’t need a special office.
I write in a beanbag, in bed, on my phone while waiting in line. Some mornings I start at 6am, others days I don’t get writing until after 10pm!
It’s not the when and where that matters.
It’s doing it!
I often hear people say they’ll start writing when they retire or when work is less busy.
The problem with that is you keep putting you writing dream last.
When you don’t make time for it, there is no time.
We make false promises to ourselves about doing it later. We’ll write that book later. We’ll learn how to craft an article later…blah, blah (You know we do it!)
But what if you gave it ten minutes now?
10 minutes everyday is 60 hours in a year! What could you achieve in 60 hours? What could you learn?
A lot, I’m willing to bet.
Are you going to make time for writing in 2022?
I hope so! I’m here for that and 100% backing you!
And yes, I did have ice-cream for breakfast yesterday.
Extra support for your writing
Why not apply for one of the Writers’ Grants from Good Story?
If you’ve worked with me before, I’m happy to write the reference. The deadline is 31st Jan.
The award is $1,500 US, used however you’d like as long as it has to do with writing and helps you tell your story.
The 2022 award is two grants:
One open to all writers.
One open to writers who identify as BIPOC, with the aim of championing underrepresented voices.
Have a great week!
Kelly xx
