There’s one spot left in my personal essay course.
So far the other two spots are filled up with guys.
Personal essays are often written by women. Maybe that’s because personal essays tend to tap into emotions and require introspection.
But why does that mean they’re just for women writers?! Of course it doesn’t!
I’ve read incredible personal essays by writers like John Gorman and Michael Thompson.
My writing bestie, Ash Jurberg, writes amazing personal essays with emotion, analysis, and humor.
Lee Gutkind is a guy and he founded one of the biggest personal essay/creative nonfiction magazines on the net.
Last year, a couple of guys took my course and one of them is TAKING IT AGAIN!
Personal essays are for today’s writing climate.
They reveal our human-ness.
And anyone can do that. Anyone can go deeper than analytical thinking and grab hold of the emotions simmering underneath the facts.
In fact, we need to now to stand out from AI.
Want to go deeper in your writing than facts and analysis?
Want to express yourself in a fully human way and connect to readers?
Need a space to do that with people to challenge and encourage you?
This is why these courses are small. 3-4 people max. All the writers give each other feedback and learn from each other as well as from me.
It’s challenging. Confronting. And sometimes damn tough.
As long as you have some writing experience, it doesn’t matter who you are. The course takes you where you’re at and then scaffolds you to the next level. And the next.
