I’m shivering in my sneakers right now! Coldest day yet here in little ol’ NZ.
But my heart is warm—ahh! Because of you!
Here are some of the emails I woke up to:
“I am a new writer, and publishing my essay has increased my confidence enough to continue writing…I discovered how fulfilling it is to have positive feedback and encouragement from other writers.”
“I am beyond appreciative that distinguished writers such as you and your team saw value in my words. It gives me enough inspiration and motivation to stick with it, so thank you!”
Thank YOU!
To everyone who entered the personal essay challenge, voted, and especially supported other writers with your kind comments.
(You can read the winner’s results here.)
You are proof of the amazingness of this writing community! Go you!
Even more incredibly, we had two generous people donate so my co-editor Ash and I can keep encouraging writers. What??!! We weren’t expecting that.
It’s given me some ideas.
But I’d like to hear from you.
What would you find encouraging? Would you want to donate to support other writers too?
Scholarship funds? Workshops?
Free chocolate for all starving writers (okay, maybe I’m just thinking with my rumbling stomach on that one.)
Any ideas are good ideas!

P.S. There are a lot of opportunities at the moment for various angles (whatever your particular views) on vasectomy, abortion, and other parenting/health related personal essays. Editors are begging for them and paying. I was commissioned a vasectomy story just this morning.
If you’re not feeling confident pitching and writing personal essays, remember you can ask to join in my Beta “Selling Your Personal Essays” course running for 2 months starting August.
