I used to think I needed permission to take a break.
I overworked (like I saw my parents doing).
I overcommitted because I felt driven and compelled to DO.
But I learned the hard way years ago that if you wait for permission, you end up crashing hard.
No-one will give you permission to take a break in the freelance/content creation industry.
The world says you have to hustle 24/7 or you’ll slip behind your competition! Hustle damn it!!
Well, I say “Pfft” to that.
The world isn’t my competition. It isn’t yours either.
Your freelance business/writing gigs will be there after a break. But more importantly, you’ll be more mentally “there”.
There are two weeks left of school here (I homeschool my two daughters) and I’m feeling done.
My brain is telling me it’s time to take a break. And play board-games with my kids, make Christmas crafts, and watch too many Christmas rom-coms.
So I’ll be taking a couple of weeks off from Because You Write.
How’s your brain right now?
Honestly. (Because we often lie to ourselves and say “I’m fine! I’ll push through!”)
If you need permission, give it to yourself.
Have a wonderful Christmas season and wishing you all the joy and warm fuzzy feelings of a cheesy Christmas rom-com!
See you soon.

Good advice, Kelly. We all need to re-charge sometimes. Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy - you deserve it. 🎄🇳🇿🎉🥂🍾🎁
I totally understand, especially during this year. Burn out plus nearing the holidays.
