Hi writing family, Kelly Eden here!
I was interviewed this week by Aimee Gramblin, the wonderful editor of Age of Empathy.
The photo has me wearing sample glasses I was trying out this week, because my optometrist tells me I now have ‘aging eyes’ and need thicker lenses (thanks optometrist!).
I ended up with red ones.
But back to the interview…
Creative nonfiction was the topic and as many of you know, one of my favorites.
Creative nonfiction is the writing world’s deep, soul-soothing bath—complete with bubbles and a glass of wine.
Age of Empathy’s stories are a wonderful place to soak, so head on over and get inspired.
Don’t think you have to be overly flowery or complex just because it’s CNF. You can be clear, simple, understated.
When you edit, keep your reader in mind — are you wasting their time by saying nothing in a very pretty way? —Me.
Writing-nerd fact for the week
Although it’s not clear why yet, research has shown expressive writing about past negative experiences leads to a whole lot of positive outcomes, such as reduced depression and anxiety.
My favorite story of the week
Found this gem in Literary Hub: 20 Famous Writers on Being Rejected
