Today I wanted to answer a question one of our writers had this week:

What’s the deal with syndication?

Before writing on Medium, I’d never come across syndication. I didn’t even know what syndication was.

I wrote stories, people paid me for them — the end.

So when I had a request from Thought Catalog to republish one of my relationship pieces, I was confused.

They wanted my piece, for free?

How was that okay? What was in it for me?

Whether you’ve had an editor request your piece, or in preparation for when they do— it’s good to understand the pros and cons of syndication.
