What if you missed your calling because of this?
Be like the caterpillar in my garden. He's on to something
Did you know, I almost didn’t become a writer?
Over a decade ago, I was dragging myself to work every day to stand in front of a classroom.
A career’s advisor had told me I’d make a good teacher. I did. But…
I HATED IT.
Like, waking up with horrible nightmares, heart racing, stress migraine kind of hated it.
Writing was always my thing. It was always meant to be my thing.
But people tell you it’s not a “real” job.
And I was super busy being what everyone else wanted me to be.
(Unlike this gorgeous guy in my garden, who’s going to be exactly the Monarch Butterfly he’s meant to be! Isn’t he cute.)
Thankfully I got sick.
I know, that’s a weird thing to be thankful for. But getting sick seriously saved me. It made me realize, I needed to do the one thing I love doing more than anything else.
I spent $15 for a PDF on pitching editors. I was unemployed now and $15 felt like a lot.
But it was the support I needed.
I nervously sent out my first series of cold pitches. Amazingly, one pitch caught an editor's eye.
She could tell I was a newbie, but decided to take a risk on me and commissioned a piece.
Within a few months, I had a regular column in a local paper and a two-page feature in a print magazine. I haven't looked back.
Now I kind of see it as a pass-it-forward situation.
That’s why I just spend a day creating a new resource for you guys and I’ve got another one in the works.
But the absolute best way I can support you in your writing is Writing Club!
When we ran it last year as a trial, I knew we had to do it again.
It’s half full already and will be hard capped at 20. So, if you want to join a group of supportive writers in March, here’s the link.
See you next week,
Kelly xx
