The editor of Nota, Colin, is great to work with. He sent out an email today and I wanted to share it with you because they pay $300 for personal essays!
The publication has just changed from The Doe to Nota and they’re looking for new stories.
The topics are very specific, but they have different themes each month—so keep writing so you are ready when a theme comes up.
Here’s the email from Colin:
“While still seeking verified, first-person narratives, we’re aiming bigger: Nota will showcase three POVs on the same issue to provide a full picture of a certain topic.
There are a few changes to the way we’ll be sharing stories—namely, we are aiming for narratives between 500-700 words, and you can have the option of being anonymous or bylined. And guess what? We’re still paying the same great rate, starting at $300. *Pops on salesman hat* You heard that right! An article between 500-700 words and you get paid 300 big ones.
For now, we’re looking for some extremely specific pitches for the following themes:
Pro-U.S. immigration system
Climate change refutation or rebalance
Anti-veganism
Unique perspective on autism
Possible Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage
Happily involved in a same-sex marriage
Hormone treatment backfire
Alternative medicine: No thank you!
Bad experience with psychedelics
Bad experience with polyamory
Feeling inspired by one of these subjects? Please pitch here.
Kelly here again. Great opportunity, right?! I’ve published twice this year with Colin and it was a fantastic experience.
Personal essays are great for your own personal growth and your wallet!
And if you’re not feeling confident writing personal essays, my Introductory course only takes a week to run through and is $139—so you’d earn the cost back and more selling just one piece. It’s a no-brainer really.
